I am a beginner, can I take the CCW/CPL course?

Yes you can. Our instruction is designed to accommodate the beginning student as well

as the advanced student. New students should take advantage of our free private lesson. With your paid class tuition, you can use the free lesson before the CCW/CPL class or receive a voucher to use toward future classes with ATHG Tactical, LLC at a later date. If you have a good comfort level in in marksmanship and pistol manipulation you would be better served by taking the voucher and getting some more advanced training. Taking the lesson before the class will allow the beginning student to learn safe gun handling skills, basic operation and maintenance, and basic shooting skills prior to taking the class. Historically, beginning students that take the free private lesson prior to the class perform very well in the class.

I don't have my own firearm. Can I still take the class?

Yes. If you don't have your own firearm, we can make one available for you. This will also give you the opportunity to try something before you buy it. We have a wide variety of pistols and action types available.

When I took my CCW/CPL class, I didn't learn very much about actually carrying a

concealed pistol and drawing from a holder. Where can I learn this information?

ATHG Tactical, LLC offers a series of Advanced Pistol courses for the CCW/CPL holder that goes beyond the basic CCW/CPL class. Click here for more information regarding these courses.

I want to purchase a pistol. Do I need a Concealed Pistol License to do this?

You do not need to have concealed pistol license to purchase a firearm. However, if you

do not have a concealed pistol license, you must apply to your local police or sheriff's

department for a License to Purchase a pistol prior to obtaining a pistol. Follow this LINK for more information.

I don't live in the same county where your class is being given. Is this O.K.?

Yes. The class that you are taking is called Personal Protection in the Home Course. ATHG Tactical, LLC is certified to teach this course all over the United States. This course meets the State of Michigan training requirements that you must meet in order to apply for your concealed pistol license (CPL). Follow this LINK to get more information.

How do I apply for my CPL?

First you must take your completed application along with your course completion certificate to the County Clerks Office of the county in which you reside. There, you will submit your application and pay the application fee ($105.00). The county clerk will then provide you with a receipt that you will take to your local police or Sheriff's department. There, your fingerprints will be taken and your background check will begin. Once the county gun board receives the fingerprint comparison report, they will issue or deny the license within 45 days.

How long will it take to get my CPL?

Depending on the Michigan State Police and their processing time, but anywhere from 2 weeks to a month.

Are there places where I cannot carry a pistol even if I have a CPL?

Yes, there is a list of places where you are not allowed to carry your pistol. These are

referred to as "Pistol Free Zones". Click this LINK to find out more about these places.

What is CPL? Why is it called a CCW?

CPL stands for Concealed Pistol License. This is the correct term for the license that will

actually allow you to carry a pistol concealed in Michigan. It is commonly referred to as

CCW. However, CCW is actually the name of the crime "Carrying a Concealed Weapon"

Can someone with past misdemeanor or felonies receive a CPL?

There is a large list of misdemeanors that will disqualify an individual from obtaining your CPL. These misdemeanors are listed on the State of Michigan Website. Any felony will disqualify you from obtaining your CPL. Follow this LINK for more information.

What does it cost to rent a pistol for the CPL class?

When you rent a pistol from ATHG the ammunition for the class is included. For this reason all rentals are $50.00. There are a limited number of rentals. There is no deposit to reserve a rental but they are reserved on a first come first serve basis so if you are planning on renting a gun let us know as soon as you register for class.
